How to create your own favicon for your blog.

“Using Adobe Photoshop Plugin ICOFormat-1.6f9″

Before I start with the procedure in creating favicon (”favorite icon”) for your website you must have the following:

1. Adobe Photoshop (Click to Buy from Adobe Online Store)
2. Adobe Photoshop ICOFormat Plugin
3. FTP Access or Fire FTP

Procedure

1. Download the ICOFormat plugin and save it then extract it to your Adobe Photoshop Plug-ins File Format Folder.

[Figure 01]

2. Create or design your favicon into a 64 x 64 px image. In this demo I’ll create a favicon for Zorlone.com as an example (figure 03).

3. When you’re ready to test the design select Image>Image Size menu and enter 16 x 16 in the pixel dimensions. Click on Resample Image and choose “Bicubic Sharper” from the drop-down menu (CS only for this step). This is the best setting for making sure that an image doesn’t blur as it’s being resized.

[figure 04]

4. Then when you’re ready to save the file go to File>Save As> then save it as favicon.ico.

[figure 05]

5. Upload the file on your /public_html/ (root) folder using the Fire-FTP Client or any FTP client. (I’ll provide another post for on how to use the fireftp next time.)

6. Then open your Word Press wp-admin then go to Appearance>Editor>
and edit your header.php (Header). Add the code below to help your browser locate the icon.

Here is the link code to include:

<link rel=”shortcut icon” href=”favicon.ico” >

It should be added between the <head> … </head> tag. Then save what you have edit.

7. Lastly to be able to view changes, clear the browse cache and refresh your page.

  1. Wow! So you’re the man behind Doc Z’s favicon. I had noticed it from his site, and I thought who made it. That was nice Jhong. You’re so artistic. I am not, he he. So, remember to create my 125 x 125 banner ha? LOL!

  7. What a cool tutorial. But please make good on your promise to write a tutorial next time about using FireFTP. I need to learn that Jhong. I still haven’t upgraded Thesis to 1.6 because I can’t figure out how to use FireFTP. Yuck.

Promise, I promise not to call you Teofilo anymore. 🙂

  9. Thanks Jan. I'm still cooking the post. BTW, you can send me the error regarding your upgrade process to Thesis 1.6. So I can exactly address the problem on my next post.

  10. Ugg Australia has recruited designers like Manolo Blahnik, Carlos Falchi, Rebecca Minkoff, Rafe pictured, and more to design high-end versions of the brand's trademark boots for its seventh annual Art & Sole auction.

I have to assume these will be filed under unaffordable (which is good – more money for St. Jude!), but I'll still be going to the pickyouruggs.com Web site on December 1 to window shop and see what these designers have cooked up.

I am trying to picture what I would do to make these high end… Real Italian leather? A pearl brooch? Other expensive ingredients and sparkles? Maybe the differences won't be that extreme, but I hope each designer puts his personal touch on the shoe. I'm certain at the very least you'll be able to pick out which Uggs came from Betsey Johnson (UGG Classic tall 5815 boots, please!).

The event is likely to inspire as many interesting Ugg knockoffs as there are regular Ugg knockoffs, so it is possible we'll see something like this around town next year. It's not only a great event for charity but probably also a good move to keep Uggs alive and relevant… especially with the number of people who'd like to see them disappear for good!UGG boots on sale!

I will of course keep wearing my Uggs because A) I have them and B) they are warm, but if your kid asks Santa for Where the Wild Things Are UGG boots… I feel for ya.
