<p><strong>Francis Magalona</strong> died on March 6, 2009 at 12:00 due to acute myelogenous leukemia. He (October 4, 1964 &#8211; March 6, 2009), also known as <strong>FrancisM</strong>, <strong>Master Rapper</strong>, and <strong>The Man From Manila</strong>, was a prominent Filipino rapper, songwriter, producer, actor, director, and photographer. Often hailed as the &#8220;<em>King of Pinoy Rap</em>&#8220;, he was considered a legend in the <span class="mw-redirect">Philippine music</span> community.</p>
<p>Even though his physical presence will be missed, but his works, music and love for his country will always be remembered.</p>

<p>Today we&#8217;re celebrating Ash Wednesday, It signifies the first day of Lent, the 40-day period (not including Sundays) of fasting and repentance leading up to Easter or &#8220;Pasko ng Pagkabuhay&#8221;.</p>

<p>The ashes used on Ash Wednesday are usually derived from burning the blessed palm branches left from the last Palm Sunday or &#8220;Palaspas&#8221; celebration. The ashes are blessed, sprinkled with holy water and fumigated with incense. Filipino Catholics believe that if we leave the ashes on, &#8220;we&#8217;re carrying the cross out into the world.&#8221; For me the Ashes on our forehead is a reminder of our renewal of faith and God&#8217;s gift to the world&#8230;</p>
